The Welfare Committee for 2009 are:

  • Welfare Officer: Mo Asa Leausa

Why does MUBS care for your welfare, health and well-being?

We have students come from all over the world and Australia to attend university here at Berwick. Many students drive long hours to get here, whilst others juggle work and study. University is a time for learning... learning to cope with the freedom of moving out, discovering social activities, sexuality, entering the adult world. MUBS cares for your welfare, health and well-being because we know that life is not easy. The services we provide are there to assist you on your journey through university. Take a look at the other sections on this website to see how we can help you. Remember that you come first, always.

Need to see a Doctor?

Our campus may be disadvantaged by not having an on-campus Doctor, and it will be quite a few years before we do. In the meantime, Berwick Family Medical Clinic will bulk-bill Australian students who have Medi-care. All you need to do is mention this when booking and show your Monash ID card. They are located at 40 Clyde Road (The University is 100 Clyde Road) and are just a five minute walk from the campus. Telephone bookings can be made on 9769-5500.

For International Students, Community Services have established a relationship with Highway Clinic in Narre Warren is the nearest Worldcare Assist OSHC Medical Clinic. The surgery is located at 511 Princes Highway, Narre Warren. Tell the clinic you are a Monash University International student insured with Worldcare Assist when you make your appointment and take and show your World care Assist membership card when you arrive at the surgery. The cost of your consultation will then be billed directly to Worldcare Assist. Contact Diane West on (03) 9704-7033

Do you need to talk to a counsellor, financial aid adviser or career adviser?

The university provides many support services that we recommend. There are many services including professional and confidential psychological counselling services; Chaplains that provide a community focus in developing spirituality for students and staff, and liaise regularly with all spiritual groups/clubs on campus; The financial aid office can assist you with a wide variety of financial matters, including Youth Allowance/Austudy, Student Loans, Information on Personal Budgeting, Emergency Cash, Financial Planning and Tax Help.

Disability services are also provided as Monash University is committed to promoting access and equity for students and staff who have a disability or long-term medical condition.

The university offers a wide range of housing and accommodation options on and off campus for students, staff, the business community and short term visitors to Monash.

Need a massage? Free tea or coffee?

Over the past two years we have introduced masseuses who have come in on a one-off basis. They have been enormously popular which is why we are looking to establish this on a regular basis. At this stage, I am happy to confirm alternating TUESDAY & THURSDAY'S in the STUDENT LOUNGE there will be FREE MASSAGES from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm! They are really popular, we have introduced a booking sheet...

In 2003 we installed a cafe area that provides free tea and coffee, as well as a toaster, sandwich maker, microwaves and a fridge. It is located in front of the bar in the Student Lounge in Building 902. The area is equipped with tables and chairs also. We encourage use of this area for all students, whether it is to relax and take time out or meet friends or conduct a group meeting.

What services do MUBS and the University offer?

As well as providing services offered in the Student Services Office ( Building 902 Room 173) such as photocopying, movie tickets and binding, MUBS operates two Student Lounges for all students. The Student Lounge in Building 902 encases a free Pool Table, a free Foosball table, Couches, magazines, daily newspapers, Televisions and Projector as well as OSCARS Bar and MOO WITH TWO cafe area. Over the year, we will also be running short courses, so stay tuned and sign up for off campus activities!
